I’m a healthcare anthropologist with 20 years of experience helping hospitals and health companies improve the way care is delivered and experienced. I'm passionate about using qualitative research methods to understand how people communicate in healthcare and turning research insights into better systems, policies, and patient outcomes.
I’ve led major research programs, published widely, mentored students and professionals, and advised partners ranging from hospitals to pharmaceutical companies. For 10 years I was an embedded scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre leading a federally funded research program to improve outcomes in general surgery, surgical oncology, and trauma/injury care. In my role at Gemic Strategy Consultancy I applied my social science and research expertise to patient advocacy, marketing, and branding in the pharmaceutical industry.
I bring a mix of deep research expertise and practical strategy to projects that aim to make healthcare more effective, compassionate, and person-centred. I hold an MA and PhD in Medical Anthropology from the University of Toronto, and a BA in Anthropology from Western University. I have been faculty at the University of Toronto since 2015.
